Do you need to strengthen your core muscles to prevent injury and improve performance?
There are lots of ways you can categorize exercises to include in your workouts, however when it comes to core training, one of the simplest ways is to break it down into 2 categories.
If you are training for surfing and snow sports, you should be including both of these types of core exercises in your workouts.
Category 1 – Core Stability Exercises
Core stability exercises help train your trunk to maintain stability when moving during the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of surf and snow sports.
This would include different kinds of planks/bridging exercises and movements like roll-outs.
Category 2 – Rotational Core Exercises
Rotational strength and power is important for surf and snow sports for producing powerful turns and maneuvers.
These exercise include hip rotational exercises and diagonal movement patterns like chops.
Below is a video showing some sample stability and rotational core exercises that you may not have tried before and can add into your workouts straight away…
One of the keys to long term sustainable progress with your fitness is to keep things fun by adding variety to your workouts…
Have a go at adding one or two of these exercises into your workouts this week and see how you go!
PS. Do you need help building a better body for surf and snow sports?
I’m looking for motivated surfers and snow riders in their 30s, 40s or 50s who want to drop up to 10kg in the next 100 days and build a leaner, stronger, healthier body so they can catch more waves, shred more snow and feel like an athlete again!
If you think you fit into that category I would to hear from you.
The next step is for you to fill out our free online assessment (it only takes a few minutes) so I can get more of an idea about what you need and make sure you are a good fit.
